Pro’s and Con’s Of The Feud

The on going battle between Lil Kim and Nicki Minaj has escalated today with the release of Lil Kim’s diss song ‘Black Friday’, a response to the Nicki track ‘Roman’s Revenge’ rumored to be directed at Lil Kim. (Listen to both with caution)

This is not the first time that Lil Kim has been in a feud and I’m sure it won’t be the last. Rap feuds have been going on since Continue reading

Black Eyed Peas Score Super Bowl XLV

It was announced yesterday that the Black Eyed Peas would be performing at the halftime of this seasons Super Bowl. The chance to perform at the Super Bowl is truly an honor considering the millions of people who watch it. Once again the Black Eyed Peas are proving their star power.

Ever since the release of ‘The E.N.D.’ in 2009, BEP have continues to jump hurdles with 3 number 1’s from the album and 5 top 10 hits. Their world tour was one of the top grossing of the year, and it was report that they were working with Continue reading

How Much?: Ne-Yo

‘Libra Scale’ is the fourth studio album from Ne-Yo and it has gotten off to a shaky start to say the least. The album has been pushed back multiple times, and it leaked in full earlier in the month. For a moment it seemed as if the album would never see the light of day, but ironically it has been released in the busiest sales week of the year.

Ne-Yo’s last album saw not only commercial success, but critical success as well. ‘Year Of  The Gentlemen’ was nominated for Album of the Year and spawned off the hit singles ‘Miss Independent’ and ‘Closer’. Considering the success he saw I’m surprised at the performance of the ‘Libra Scale’ singles.

Sneak Peak: T.I. feat. Christina Aguilera

With the release of his album quickly approaching T.I. is keeping the buzz alive giving us a sneak peak of his new single ‘Castle Walls’ featuring pop star Christina Aguilera.

The 30 second sneak peak only features Christina Aguilera singing what I assume to be the chorus. The song was produced by Alex Da Kid, who is quickly becoming the ‘it’ producer in music after the success of ‘Love The Way You Lie’.

T.I. changed a lot with his album ‘Paper Trail’. I honestly feel like all of T.I.’s new collaborations sound the same. ‘Castle Walls’ will probably sound like everything off of ‘Paper Trail’, Continue reading

Rihanna nabs 9th Career Number 1

This was a big week for Rihanna with the release of her fifth album ‘LOUD’. The album failed to come in at number 1 on the Billboard 200, but debuted at number 3 selling 207,000 copies according to Billboard. This marks the biggest sales week in Rihanna’s career, but does not mark her highest postion. ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ debuted at number 2 back in 2007.

It really is a shock, and frankly a problem, that Rihanna can hold such weight singles wise, yet not have a number 1 album. The sales are off to a good start, but they should be higher considering her popularity and the performance of her singles thus far. Still, there is much to celebrate with these numbers, and the way things are going ‘LOUD’ could easily be bigger than ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’, especially after the next peice of news.

BEP Releases ‘The Time’ Video

The Black Eyed Peas released their music video for their brand new single ‘The Time (Dirty Bit)’ tonight. With their album coming out next tuesday I was starting to wonder where the video was.

This past week BEP has been on promotional overdrive with performances on both Oprah and the AMA’s. Considering their current standing in music I know their sales will be epic next week, but with Susan Boyle dominating the charts for the second week in a row BEP might have to pull out all the stops to ensure they have another number 1 album under their belt.

‘The Time (Dirty Bit)’ video is everything you’d expect from BEP. It has a corniness that is forgiven due to advanced Continue reading

Understanding a ‘Twisted Fantasy’

I have to admit that I approached the new Kanye West album cautiously. If you read this blog you know I am a fan of his work, but I had a bad feeling about this album. My main reasoning, the singles.

The chart performance of each of these singles are respectable, but after their digital release weeks they’d fall quickly down the charts. The radio was not showing him too much love this go around. I was confused because this wasn’t Continue reading

How Much?: ‘Pink Friday’

The second installment of How Much?’ belongs to Nicki Minaj. Since exploding into the mainstream in 2009, ‘Pink Friday’ has been one of the most anticipated albums in recent memory.

Proceeded by the Rap number 1 hit ‘Your Love’, ‘Check It Out’ and ‘Right Thru Me’, Nicki is aiming for the top spot in the most difficult sales week of the year. Even though she has yet to score a solo top 10 hit, Nicki has kept herself in the spotlight more than any other artist this year. It’s nearly impossible to turn on the radio without hearing her voice.

Before you vote its important to note that Nicki has single handedly revitalized female rap. Since Missy Elliott and Lil Continue reading

Performance Corner: Keri Hilson

With a little more than a month until the release of her sophomore album ‘No Boys Allowed’, Keri Hilson has kicked in her promotional campaign with a performance on Jay Leno.

While Keri has yet to make a dent chart wise with her first two singles, its evident that the album is still being put into full gear. With reports of the artwork being shot this past week, I’d say it is still probable that the album comes out on its release date of December 21st.

I’m still surprised that ‘Pretty Girl Rock’ has yet to chart, but Continue reading

How Much?: Kanye West

Kanye West has proved yet again that he can create a work of art among a life crisis. ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ has been receiving rave reviews from the critics, most noticeably Pitchfork. The album has earned the coveted rating of 10.0, a feat that has not occurred in the past 8 years.

With an album that is being widely accepted as perfection, the pressure is on for the first week sales. Even though the album is getting positive reviews non of its singles has seen massive success. After hearing the album though I realized that it’s not meant to be taken apart. The album is meant to be heard in full, so I’m not upset that none of the singles hit the top 10.
