2010 Year End: Top 20 Singles

We’re finally at the end of the year, which means that this will be the last post of 2010! First I want to thank all of you who come and read. Just knowing that people are actually reading my thought is very excited, and I am truly blessed to have readers who actually care so thank you!

That being said lets end the year by listing the top 20 singles. I really did enjoy the music that was released this year, and I think that it is only a Continue reading

2010 Year End: Top 20 Albums

We’re living in an era where many claim that the album is dead and artists are now shifting their focus to singles. I would beg to differ especially with some of the albums that have come out this year.

This year showed artists who grew both lyrically and musically, as many tried to display the notion that albums are dead. I will say that I felt the strongest about the Rap albums that Continue reading

2010 Year End: Artists

After doing song lists all week I wanted to compile a list of the top 10 artists of the year. With the debut of many new artists, as well as the comebacks of a few greats, this year was an interesting one for the music industry.

There were a few things that I considered while making the list. Chart success, overall popularity, and album sales lead me to make my decisions.

I’ll admit, it was difficult to put some of Continue reading

2010 Year End: Pop Songs

Dance and Techno influences ruled the pop genre this year. After the rise of dance music in 2009, this year seemed to be filled with club geared beats and distorted vocals.

Artists like Usher and Lady Antebellum saw major success as they geared their songs towards the pop audience, and newcomers like Bruno Mars and Ke$ha ruled the airwaves, causing both praise and controversy.

I feel like pop is a weird genre because it accepts and rejects Continue reading

2010 Year End: Rap Songs

This was quite the year for Rap with the comeback of Eminem, who had the top selling album of the year. While many people say that the genre as a whole has sold out, I’ll never give in to that.

Music is meant to grow and evolve as time goes on. I’m honestly sick of people complaining that Rap is no longer good because it doesn’t sound like the 90’s. There is no Continue reading

2010 Year End: R&B Song

As this year comes to a close I wanted to gather up a list of my favorite songs and albums of the year as a whole. On the 31st I’ll release my top 10 song and album list for the year, but until then I’ll compile other year end charts to hold you over.

If you read the blog regularly then you know I’m an avid lover of R&B, so naturally I would compile a list of the Best R&B songs of the year.

Overall 2010 was actually a slow year R&B Continue reading

Christmas Post!:

Today being the day that Christ was born, I wanted to keep the post focused on that as much as possible. Numerous musical acts have covered Christmas songs in the past, so I figured I’d gather some together to give you a soundtrack to your Christmas.

This is may favorite time of year, and I truly believe that music plays an important part to the season as a whole. Listening to current star record Christmas classics is always great, because they find a way to add their own twist to the track.

Rihanna recently released her version of ‘A Child Is Born’. She take an island approach to the song, which actually makes me believe that it was recorded earlier in her career. It sounds like something off of her debut album, but still is a great listen. Check it out below along with some other Christmas classics.

How Much: Keri Hilson

After stepping away from the pen in 2009 Keri Hilson was able to hit gold with her debut album ‘In A Perfect World.’ Spawning off the worldwide hit ‘Knock You Down’, Keri was able to establishing herself as a solo act, but she still needs to prove herself as a force to be reckoned with. Hopefully her second album, ‘No Boys Allowed’, will do just that.

‘No Boys Allowed’ was released on tuesday, preceded by ‘Pretty Girl Rock’, ‘Breaking Point’ and the street single ‘The Way You Love Me’. ¬†While ‘Pretty Girl Rock’ is slowly climbing up the charts, the rest of the singles failed to ignite. All is not lost though considering that Keri has had a massive promotional campaign.

The Numbers Are In…

The weekly album sale numbers are in, and it’s not looking too good for some people. Taylor Swift, yet again, has returned to the top spot selling 259,000 copies of ‘Speak Now’. The album is currently the third best seller of the year, and at this point there’s no way for her to win, so congrats to Eminem for having the top selling album of the year.

Susan Boyle continues to sell with her album, ‘The Gift’, moving 254,000 copies. The new Michael Jackson album, ‘Michael’, debuts with 228,000 copies at number 3. It looks Continue reading

What’s Going On With Kanye?

After releasing his critically acclaimed album, ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’, things seemed to have been quiet on the Kanye front.

Nicki Minaj, who released her debut album ‘Pink Friday’ on the same day, has been promoting the album non-stop with multiple interviews and performances since the release date. Kanye on the other hand has kept to himself, steering clear from the late night promotions, resulting in the album falling out of the top 10 last week.
