We’re finally at the end of the year, which means that this will be the last post of 2010! First I want to thank all of you who come and read. Just knowing that people are actually reading my thought is very excited, and I am truly blessed to have readers who actually care so thank you!
That being said lets end the year by listing the top 20 singles. I really did enjoy the music that was released this year, and I think that it is only a sign of greater things to come in 2011.
This list is based purely off of my opinion, so you won’t find this order anywhere else! I only included songs that were officially released as single in 2010, meaning that songs like ‘Tik Tok’, which was released at the end of 2009, won’t be on the list even though it was the top song on the Billboard Hot 100 this year. I needed to narrow down my choices, that being said here are my top 20 singles of 2010:
20. Grenade – Bruno Mars
19. Alejandro – Lady Gaga
18. Need You Now – Lady Antebellum
17. Over – Drake
16. Cooler Than Me – Mike Posner
15. Fistful of Tears – Maxwell
14. Moment 4 Life – Nicki Minaj feat. Drake
13. Only Girl (In the World) – Rihanna
12. Teenage Dream – Katy Perry
11. 6’7′ – Lil Wayne
1.What’s My Name – Rihanna feat. Drake
In 2007 when I heard ‘Umbrella’ I thought it was one of the best songs I ever heard and I honestly thought that Rihanna would never be able to top it. Everything from the songs melody to it’s lyrics was perfect. It looks like Rihanna has done what I never thought possible with What’s My Name. It is by far one of the catchiest songs to date, with the most addictive melody in the chorus.
From the first ‘Oh Na Na’ Rihanna commands the track, sounding the most natural to date. Even when she performs the song it seems to flow from her. Her island roots are coming into play, as she tackles the cascading chorus. There is nothing like a song where the artist sound convincing, and finally Rihanna was able to achieve that.
The playful island beat perfectly represents the tone of the song and the interaction between Drake and Rihanna. Their chemistry is undeniable on the track, making the song experience ten times better. There was no one who could’ve done the song like Drake with his strong delivery.
I would argue that What’s My Name is not only the song of the year, but the song of Rihanna’s career thus far. With the song still gaining radio impressions each week I would not be surprised if it hit number 1 again in the new year. Job well done.
Honrable Mentions: Airplanes – Bob feat. Halley Williams, OMG – Usher feat. will.i.am, Dog Days Are Over – Florence and the Machine, Rude Boy – Rihanna, Break Your Heart – Taio Cruz feat. Ludacris, Massive Attack – Nicki Minaj, Bottoms Up – Trey Songz feat. Nicki Minaj
