As part of Billboard’s Mash-Up Monday’s, singer Miguel stopped by the studio to give his rendition of the Britney Spears smash “Hold It Against Me.”
Miguel turned the pop song into a smooth soul jam lead by his powerful vocals and a blaring synth. While he did forget some of the lyrics overall he did a good job and I would argue that the song sounds better stripped down like this.
Covering a song is never easy, especially when you are trying to make it your own. Miguel successfully twisted the song into his style, while keeping some of the aspects the public fell in love with.
Speaking of Miguel, it seems that his most recent single is turning out to be a sleeper hit. This past week “Sure Thing” advanced to number 26 on the Hip-Hop/R&B Chart and 87 on the Hot 100. It’s creeping up the itunes 100 as well, so I’m still hoping the song gets the full recognition that it deserves.
