Chemistry is Everything

There is something to be said about the chemistry between an artist and their producer. When a producer and artist understand each other the results are phenomenal. They create a joint message through their work, and it’s something that shouldn’t be taken for granted, especially in this ‘fast food’ music industry.

I got to thinking about this when I was listening to Drakes newest offering ‘Marvin’s Room’. Continue reading

Everyone,

Thank you for being understanding with me. Judging by my stats it seems that some of you have continued to check up on the site throughout my absence. That is something I am extremely grateful and surprised at.

A lot has happened in the past two months music wise, so I hope to jump right back in giving my opinions to you all.

Make sure to “like” the facebook page and follow me on twitter if you don’t. Keep spreading the word also.

Thanks,

Some News!

I’ve been writing this blog since May completely by myself. It’s been hard, but overall rewarding. I decided that it might be interesting to have a guest writer every few weeks so you could hear another voice.

I think it will be a cool way to break things up every now and then and give someone the chance to talk about something I wouldn’t typically cover.

A Few Words From Tarik:

Just when you thought he was off the radar Tarik strikes again. I am honored to be part of Tarik Tuesdays and am so thankfully that he asked me to be part of his career in this way.

Come back tonight 8pm Eastern Time/ 7 pm Central for the first installment of Tarik Tuesdays.

Christmas Post!:

Today being the day that Christ was born, I wanted to keep the post focused on that as much as possible. Numerous musical acts have covered Christmas songs in the past, so I figured I’d gather some together to give you a soundtrack to your Christmas.

This is may favorite time of year, and I truly believe that music plays an important part to the season as a whole. Listening to current star record Christmas classics is always great, because they find a way to add their own twist to the track.

Rihanna recently released her version of ‘A Child Is Born’. She take an island approach to the song, which actually makes me believe that it was recorded earlier in her career. It sounds like something off of her debut album, but still is a great listen. Check it out below along with some other Christmas classics.

What’s Going On With Kanye?

After releasing his critically acclaimed album, ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’, things seemed to have been quiet on the Kanye front.

Nicki Minaj, who released her debut album ‘Pink Friday’ on the same day, has been promoting the album non-stop with multiple interviews and performances since the release date. Kanye on the other hand has kept to himself, steering clear from the late night promotions, resulting in the album falling out of the top 10 last week.

Tracklist: ‘No Boys Allowed’ Keri Hilson

Keri Hilson is gearing up to release her sophomore album, ‘No Boys Allowed’ on December 21st. The album was put on Amazon yesterday with a pre-order option revealing the tracklist and 30 second clips to each song.

I have to say that I was not interested in the project until I heard the clips of each song. Her first album has some good songs on it, but after hearing ‘The Way You Love Me’ I lost a lot of respect for Keri as an artist.

The album is meant to bring Keri in a Continue reading

Platinum Taylor

In July I read an article on Billboard that questioned Taylor’s ability to sell one million records in one week. There were multiple industry analyst who said she could, but I just brushed it off. When ‘Mine’ came out and fell out of the top 10 quickly, I thought that selling one million would be a stretch.

Lil Wayne was the last person to do so in 2008, but ‘Lollipop’ was a number 1 song. In my mind having a number 1 song would lead to more albums sales, and since Taylor wasn’t number 1 there was no way.

I was wrong. So congrats to her, and Im happy because this helps out the industry quite a bit! So how much did Taylor Sell? Continue reading

The Theory Behind Album Pre-Orders

As I went on itunes today I noticed that there is an abundance on pre-orders that have become available. Currently there are 16 albums in the top 200 that are pre-orders, 6 of which are in the top 21 as you can see in my screenshot. With the holiday season quickly approaching this becomes a vital time for album sales. So what does this abundance of pre-orders mean for the industry?
