How Much: Keri Hilson

After stepping away from the pen in 2009 Keri Hilson was able to hit gold with her debut album ‘In A Perfect World.’ Spawning off the worldwide hit ‘Knock You Down’, Keri was able to establishing herself as a solo act, but she still needs to prove herself as a force to be reckoned with. Hopefully her second album, ‘No Boys Allowed’, will do just that.

‘No Boys Allowed’ was released on tuesday, preceded by ‘Pretty Girl Rock’, ‘Breaking Point’ and the street single ‘The Way You Love Me’. ¬†While ‘Pretty Girl Rock’ is slowly climbing up the charts, the rest of the singles failed to ignite. All is not lost though considering that Keri has had a massive promotional campaign.

How Much?: ‘Last Train To Paris’

This week just happens to be the release week for two of the most delayed albums in recent memory. The Diddy-Dirty Money album, ‘Last Train To Paris’, has been in the works for two years now and has finally seen the light of day.

The album has helmed five singles thus far, the most successful being ‘Coming Home’, which reached a peak of ¬†24 on the Hot 100 this week.

With ‘Coming Home’ gaining popularity, I have the feeling that the track will sell more as time goes on, rather than making a strong impression the first week.

How Much: ‘Basic Instinct’

It seems like Ciara announced her fourth album ‘Basic Instinct’ a decade ago, but today is finally the day that the album drops.

I can’t decide if the road to release has been worse for ‘Fantasy Ride’ , her last album, or ‘Basic Instinct’, but regardless it’s safe to say that Ciara has seen her fair share of struggles these past few albums. Between album leaks, and lack of promotion I really don’t know how the future of Ciara’s career, let album ‘Basic Instinct’ will end up.

Reviews for the album have been largely mixed, but many boast about Ciara’s lure as an artist. Ciara has everything it Continue reading

How Much?: T.I.

He may be on another term in jail, but that has stopped T.I. from dropping his new album ‘No Mercy’. The road to release has been a long one with the album, under its original name ‘King’, originally scheduled to come out in August.

T.I. has also gone through a few singles to get to this point, none of which were actual hits. Things looked promising for ‘Got Your Back’ at first, but even with it’s mainstream appeal the song never caught on the Hot 100. ‘Get Back Up’, his collaboration with Chris Brown, as so far peaked at 70 on the Hot 100.

His last album ‘Paper Trail’ helmed 3 top 3 singles, 2 of which Continue reading

How Much?: Miguel

Miguel entered into the highest sales climate of the year after releasing his debut album, ‘All I Want Is You’ on Tuesday. Containing the R&B top 10 hit of the same name, the album is one of the only true representations of R&B released this year.

Miguel has the support of multiple artists, including Usher and Mary J Blige, the buzz surrounding the album has all been positive. Currently Miguel can be seen on the ‘OMG Tour’ with Usher and Trey Songz.

Th album was floating around the top 20 on itunes at the beginning of the week, but has since fallen to number 37 as Continue reading

How Much?: The Black Eyed Peas

With the article that I wrote today I thought it would be appropriate to ask what you all think their new album ‘The Beginning’ would sell this week.

Their last album, ‘The END’, sold over 7 million copies so far and has spawned off three number 1 singles. Their new song, ‘The Time’ just hit the top 10 this past week and has been rising in both digital sales and airplay.

With the Susan Boyle reign taking over, their is no way that Continue reading

How Much?: ‘Pink Friday’

The second installment of How Much?’ belongs to Nicki Minaj. Since exploding into the mainstream in 2009, ‘Pink Friday’ has been one of the most anticipated albums in recent memory.

Proceeded by the Rap number 1 hit ‘Your Love’, ‘Check It Out’ and ‘Right Thru Me’, Nicki is aiming for the top spot in the most difficult sales week of the year. Even though she has yet to score a solo top 10 hit, Nicki has kept herself in the spotlight more than any other artist this year. It’s nearly impossible to turn on the radio without hearing her voice.

Before you vote its important to note that Nicki has single handedly revitalized female rap. Since Missy Elliott and Lil Continue reading

How Much?: Kanye West

Kanye West has proved yet again that he can create a work of art among a life crisis. ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ has been receiving rave reviews from the critics, most noticeably Pitchfork. The album has earned the coveted rating of 10.0, a feat that has not occurred in the past 8 years.

With an album that is being widely accepted as perfection, the pressure is on for the first week sales. Even though the album is getting positive reviews non of its singles has seen massive success. After hearing the album though I realized that it’s not meant to be taken apart. The album is meant to be heard in full, so I’m not upset that none of the singles hit the top 10.

How Much?: Kid Cudi

I decided to start something new on the blog called the ‘How Much?’ series. With so much speculation about the first sales of albums, I thought it would be interesting to give my predictions and see what you all thought as well.

With Kid Cudi’s second album receiving such rave reviews from the critics I though he might be interesting to start with.

Kid Cudi’s music is raw and revealing, with music of his music being about his wars with both his dark side and drugs. ‘Man on the Moon II:The Legend of Mr. Rager’ is mainly about Cudi’s addictions and lost sense of self. The album explicitly runs through his mind and has features such as Kanye West Continue reading
