Miguel Covers Britney

In light of today being the release of Britney Spears seventh studio album Femme Fatale, it only feels right to do a post that is Britney related.

As part of Billboard’s Mash-Up Monday’s, singer Miguel stopped by the studio to give his rendition of the Britney Spears smash “Hold It Against Me.”

Miguel turned the pop song into a smooth soul jam lead by his powerful vocals and a blaring synth. While he did forget some of the lyrics overall he did a good job and I would argue that the song sounds better stripped down like this.

Covering a song is never easy, especially when you are trying to make it your own. Miguel successfully twisted the song into his style, while keeping some of the aspects the public fell in love with.

‘Raise Your Hands’ – David Guetta feat. Miguel

Rating: B-

The new offering from David Guetta’s new album has just premiered and it features new artist Miguel. ‘Raise Your Hands’ is the second song that we have heard from Guetta’s new album following the Rihanna collaboration ‘Who’s That Chick’.

‘Raise Your Hands’ honestly sounds like everything else that Guetta has put out these past few months, but it is Miguel that makes the track really shine. For an artist that is not yet Continue reading

How Much?: Miguel

Miguel entered into the highest sales climate of the year after releasing his debut album, ‘All I Want Is You’ on Tuesday. Containing the R&B top 10 hit of the same name, the album is one of the only true representations of R&B released this year.

Miguel has the support of multiple artists, including Usher and Mary J Blige, the buzz surrounding the album has all been positive. Currently Miguel can be seen on the ‘OMG Tour’ with Usher and Trey Songz.

Th album was floating around the top 20 on itunes at the beginning of the week, but has since fallen to number 37 as Continue reading

Performance Corner: Miguel

With the release of his debut album this week, R&B singer Miguel is making his round promoting the album. He has already toured with Mary J. Blige and is now on tour with Usher. Considering that he has yet to have a strong hit on the Hot 100 I was surprised (but glad) to see him perform on Jimmy Kimmel.

Performing his top 10 R&B hit ‘All I Want Is You’, Miguel set to impress the crowd and viewers alike. Overall I think Miguel Continue reading

‘Sure Thing’- Miguel

Rating: A++
Last time I reviewed Miguel I questioned his ability to preform on other tracks. I have never been so wrong with a skeptical attitude towards an artist. I saw Miguel perform live last night and he blew me away. ‘Sure Thing’ was the second song that he preformed, and it is one of the best R&B songs since Maxwell’s ‘Pretty Wings’. After seeing him live I think he could be the next big performer in R&B. With other male acts like Usher and Chris Brown running to pop, its nice hear R&B done right.

‘Sure Thing’ starts with Miguels voice as the main focus. Again this is another perfect vocal performance from Miguel. Normally I am not a fan of the distorted baritone voice in songs, but it works here. The heartfelt beat mixes acoustic Continue reading

‘All I Want Is You’- Miguel feat. J.Cole

Rating: B+/A-

Along the lines of the last post, it looks like some male R&B artists are setting to bring back emotion to their songs. New Jive artist Miguel is set to release his debut album in Febuary 2011. The albums lead single, ‘All I Want Is You’, features up and coming rapper J.Cole. Considering the buzz that Cole has received over the past year the track has received a good amount of attention and airplay. ‘All I Want Is You’ is a slow R&B track that is a solid debut from Miguel.

The beat is simple and barley builds throughout the song. I would not recommend focusing on the it because the song becomes monotonous if you do. The same keyboard line is repeated throughout the whole track, Continue reading
