How Much?: Ne-Yo

‘Libra Scale’ is the fourth studio album from Ne-Yo and it has gotten off to a shaky start to say the least. The album has been pushed back multiple times, and it leaked in full earlier in the month. For a moment it seemed as if the album would never see the light of day, but ironically it has been released in the busiest sales week of the year.

Ne-Yo’s last album saw not only commercial success, but critical success as well. ‘Year Of  The Gentlemen’ was nominated for Album of the Year and spawned off the hit singles ‘Miss Independent’ and ‘Closer’. Considering the success he saw I’m surprised at the performance of the ‘Libra Scale’ singles.

The Perfect Storm

Finally the week of Black Friday is upon us, bringing one of the busiest weeks for releases in music this year. I like to refer to this as The Perfect Storm because I have a feel that it is going to be pretty unpredictable. So I’m wondering which albums you are going to be buying this week, or what albums you’d like to get. This is the biggest shopping week of the year, so I assume that most of you will be going out to shop, and hopefully buying music too! Considering that some of them have leaked I wouldn’t be surprised if some of you have downloaded them already. Also, considering all of the other albums that have been released you may be wanting to buy one Continue reading

‘The Beginning’ Track List + Poll

After revealing their first single ‘The Time (The Dirty Bit)’ last week, the Black Eyed Peas have released the official track list of their album ‘The Beginning’ yesterday. I always love looking at track list because they have an effect on my level of anticipation. I know it sounds odd, but reading a the names of the songs can spark or fizzle interest.

Seeing the name of a song automatically make me question the sound and content. A songs title is always important because a bad title cold hinder the songs popularity. Reading a track list is a literal peak to the names of future flops and hits.

That being said my feelings were alway a little shaky concerning ‘The Beginning’. I generally like the Black Eyed Peas as a band, and I think they Continue reading

Poll: November Anticipation

With November less than a month away it is gearing up to be the biggest month of the year for high profile releases. With Kanye announcing on his twitter today (as I reported last week) that his album is coming out on November 22nd, I wanted to see whose album you are dying to have. I’m going to have to save my money because there is at least one album a week that I am going to need to buy. Tell me who you think will sell the most in the comments section as well. My money is on Kanye, but Susan Boyle is also releasing her album this month, and last year she blew the competition away. No one had a chance of coming close to her sale, and I was not happy in the slightest. Hopefully that won’t happen again this year but you never know! Let me know your predictions and vote in the poll below:

Nothing But A Number

With her current single ‘Whip My Hair’ climbing quickly up the charts, 9 year old Willow Smith is gearing up to release her debut album. With the sound of ‘Whip My Hair’ it is clear that Willow wants to reach the older audiences as well as young ones. This is smart considering that it is hard to break free from the Tween group once you are there. As I said in my review of the song, her age could distract older audiences from connecting to her music. With the song jumping from 60 to 38 this week on the R&B chart it looks like my fear may have been unfounded, but I want to see what everyone else thinks. Do you think Willow’s age will negatively affect her music, or do you think that it would add to her artistry? Personally, I think it adds to her because at first listen people are blown away that she is only 9. Being this good at 9 years old will bring her publicity for all the right reasons. I know that there have to be people on both side so I ask, what do you think? Vote below:

Poll: Best New Artist

2010 has seen many new artists who are paving their way into music history. Whether you love them or hate them these artists have made enough of an impact this year to be recognized. Frankly, I think 2009 had better artist than 2010, but there are a few gems who came out this year that should have long lasting careers if they are able to keep up their momentum.

BoB debuted with a number 1 album and single. So far his first three single have all peaked in the top 10. Bruno Mars helped BoB score his first number 1, and recently hit number 1 on his own. He has written countless songs for other artist, and has his album coming out in less than two weeks. Ke$ha also debuted with a number  1 album and single. Whether you hate to love her or love to hate her the girl has had 5 top 10 hits in less than a year. Taio Cruz had his debut single hit number 1, and followed that with his smash ‘Dynamite’ peaking at number 2. Mike Posner came out of nowhere with his smash ‘Cooler Than Me’. Recorded from his dorm room, his album debuted within the top 10. While Wiz Kalifia and J.Cole continue to build up hype for their album, the fan base and attention they have gotten already put them in a league of their own.

So who do you think was the best this year?

New Poll: Best Hip Hop Act

2010 has been a pretty good year for Hip Hop. Newer artist like BoB and Drake took over the airwaves, while older artist like Eminem and Ludacris reminded us why we loved them to begin with. Wiz Kalifia and Tyga are blowing up the mixtape world, while Nicki Minaj has been infecting every pop star known to man. Lil’ Wayne may have been in jail, but still had a presence on the radio. Naturally Jay-Z commanded the game, while Kanye came back stronger than ever! Vote on the artist the impressed you, inspired you, or just entertained you with their music. The poll will only be open for one day so spread the word!
