Recovery Sells 1,000,000 Digital Copies

Another milestone was passed in music today as Billboard reports that Eminem’s album Recovery, surpasses a million digital downloads. The album is the first to do so in the United States since digital album sales began to be tracked in 2005.

I was actually surprised to read that only 12 albums have ever sold over 500,000 digital copies. Physical singles sales have dwindled down to nothing thanks to digital singles, so  I assumed that more albums would be selling digitally.

This is another huge accolade for Eminem, who continues to impress with Recovery. The album really has only had two hits songs, yet it Continue reading

Single Cover: ‘I Need A Doctor’

Here is the official cover to the new Dr. Dre single ‘I Need A Doctor’ featuring. Skylar Grey and Eminem.

The track is set to be the 2nd official single to Dre’s new album Detox, which once again does not have an official release date. There is a rumor that this could be for a re-release for Recovery, but I’d only count that as gossip considering there has been no official word about a re-release.

An unfinished version of the track did leak last week, but Continue reading

Release Dates Galor

This week has brought the announcements of a few excited release dates. We’ll start first with Wiz Khalifa.

The rapper went to ustream to announce both his album title and release date. Rolling Papers is set to be released on March 29th. Following the success of ‘Black and Yellow’, Wiz should have a nice welcoming when his albums drops.

Speaking of ‘Black and Yellow’, the track sold 201,000 copies this Continue reading

Wayne and Eminem Rock SNL

Last night Eminem performed on SNL brining Lil Wayne along for the ride. The pair performed their hit single ‘No Love’ together, and then each performed their own songs during the second set.

Eminem performed the P!nk assisted ‘Won’t Back Down’, which made me wonder if the track will be released as the fourth single from ‘Recovery’. At this point Eminem could release anything from that album because it sold so much, but ‘Won’t Back Down’ might go over well being that it’s Continue reading

End of the Year Charts: Hot 100

With the end of the year only three weeks away it’s time for the year end charts to be coming out. Billboard revealed the end of the year charts today, and I was surprised by some of the results.

The results are  drawn up from the amount of airplay and digital sales that a song has sold over the year. So keep that in mind as you read the list before you get angry.

Since my Grammy features went over so well I am going to Continue reading

‘Love The Way You Lie (Part 2)’- Rihanna feat. Eminem

Eminem had the right idea when he asked Rihanna to sing the chorus on ‘Love The Way You Lie’. The song was a smash hit and is rumored to be a big hit at the Grammy’s this year.

Last year Alicia Keys decided to make a second version of her joint Jay-Z collaboration ‘Empire State of Mind’. The results were classic, and really added to Alicia’s album (which was lacking aside from a few songs).

Rihanna must have been inspired because she decided to do a second version of ‘Love The Way You Lie’. My only complaint about the original version was the fact that Continue reading

Thoughts: ‘Pink Friday’ + Tracklist

Over the weekend Nicki Minaj added her album as a pre-order on itunes, thus revealing her hotly anticipated tracklist.

It has been a long time since there has been an album by a female rapper that is so widely anticipated. One could argue that it is one of the biggest female rap albums ever, but that’s talk for a different post. There is no doubt about the pressure being on for Nicki, but if her tracklist reveals anything, I think we will are in for a treat.

The album has 6 features, leaving 7 solo songs for Nicki. I’m pretty excited about this, because considering she has been the biggest featured artist of the past year, Continue reading

Sugarland On Top

With 203,000 copies sold, Sugarland lands the number 1 spot with their album ‘The Incredible Machine’. This is the fourth time that the group has been in the top spot. Once again this proves that country acts consistently have strong opening weeks. A with Taylor Swift predicted to hit anywhere from 800,000 to 1,000,000 copies next week,  I think its safe to say that the country genre has owned this years album sales.

King Of Leon open at number 2 with 184,000 copies sold. ‘Come Around Sundown’ has the highest opening both in sales and position for the group. Their last album, ‘Only By The Night’ opened at 5 with 74,000. This is a significant step up, selling over 100,000 more. This doesn’t come as much of a surprise considering Continue reading

Where did Bruno Fall?

I was rooting for Bruno all week, and I was convinced that he could pull out a number 1 album, especially after his awesome SNL performances. Sadly I was wrong because Bruno debuted at number 3 selling 55,000 copies according to Billboard. Considering that he has the number 1 single in the country right now those numbers are extremely low, but they are not as shocking as the sales of the number 1 album in the country this week.

Country singer Toby Keith debuts at number 1 with his new album ‘Bullets In The Gun’. The album sold a mere 71,000 copies, making it the lowest number 1 debut in Billboard history. Every year Continue reading

Eminem Announces New Single

Eminem is set to drop his new video tomorrow for the theirs single from his album ‘Recovery’. ‘No Love’, his collaboration with Lil Wayne, is a great choice for a single. The was song was standout on his album and the timing is perfect. After the success of ‘Not Afraid’ and ‘Love The Way You Lie’ Eminem has just as much radio support as he did in the early 2000’s. Dropping radio hit will allow the album to get even bigger than it already has.
Lil Wayne always has a lot of buzz surrounding him, but since his jail sentence is almost up his prescence his been desired now more than ever. ‘No Love’ is even better than ‘Drop The World’, which was the last Continue reading
