J.Cole Wins

After two years of hype and speculation, it seems that J.Cole will come out on top with his debut album Cole World: the Sideline Story. Early reports from Billboard suggest that the LP could push 240,000 to 250,000 copies this first week. Not only does this come as a blow to all of Cole’s naysayers, but also to Blink 182, who will have to settle for the runner-up spot with a predicted 140,000 for their “comeback” album.

I have to say that Continue reading

Wiz Khalifa Sells

This week marks the release of Wiz Khalifa’s debut album Rolling Papers. The albums is lead by number 1 single “Black and Yellow” and second single “Roll Up.”

A few months ago I would’ve never thought that Wiz would be  as hyped as he is now. Early on in his career I compared him to Drake; a rapper with a strong mixtape following and a strong first single. Wiz has set himself apart these last few months though proving that he is in another lane.

With his publicized relationship with Amber Rose, Wiz slowly became more Continue reading

How Much: Keri Hilson

After stepping away from the pen in 2009 Keri Hilson was able to hit gold with her debut album ‘In A Perfect World.’ Spawning off the worldwide hit ‘Knock You Down’, Keri was able to establishing herself as a solo act, but she still needs to prove herself as a force to be reckoned with. Hopefully her second album, ‘No Boys Allowed’, will do just that.

‘No Boys Allowed’ was released on tuesday, preceded by ‘Pretty Girl Rock’, ‘Breaking Point’ and the street single ‘The Way You Love Me’.  While ‘Pretty Girl Rock’ is slowly climbing up the charts, the rest of the singles failed to ignite. All is not lost though considering that Keri has had a massive promotional campaign.

The Numbers Are In…

The weekly album sale numbers are in, and it’s not looking too good for some people. Taylor Swift, yet again, has returned to the top spot selling 259,000 copies of ‘Speak Now’. The album is currently the third best seller of the year, and at this point there’s no way for her to win, so congrats to Eminem for having the top selling album of the year.

Susan Boyle continues to sell with her album, ‘The Gift’, moving 254,000 copies. The new Michael Jackson album, ‘Michael’, debuts with 228,000 copies at number 3. It looks Continue reading

How Much?: ‘Last Train To Paris’

This week just happens to be the release week for two of the most delayed albums in recent memory. The Diddy-Dirty Money album, ‘Last Train To Paris’, has been in the works for two years now and has finally seen the light of day.

The album has helmed five singles thus far, the most successful being ‘Coming Home’, which reached a peak of  24 on the Hot 100 this week.

With ‘Coming Home’ gaining popularity, I have the feeling that the track will sell more as time goes on, rather than making a strong impression the first week.

How Much: ‘Basic Instinct’

It seems like Ciara announced her fourth album ‘Basic Instinct’ a decade ago, but today is finally the day that the album drops.

I can’t decide if the road to release has been worse for ‘Fantasy Ride’ , her last album, or ‘Basic Instinct’, but regardless it’s safe to say that Ciara has seen her fair share of struggles these past few albums. Between album leaks, and lack of promotion I really don’t know how the future of Ciara’s career, let album ‘Basic Instinct’ will end up.

Reviews for the album have been largely mixed, but many boast about Ciara’s lure as an artist. Ciara has everything it Continue reading

How Much?: T.I.

He may be on another term in jail, but that has stopped T.I. from dropping his new album ‘No Mercy’. The road to release has been a long one with the album, under its original name ‘King’, originally scheduled to come out in August.

T.I. has also gone through a few singles to get to this point, none of which were actual hits. Things looked promising for ‘Got Your Back’ at first, but even with it’s mainstream appeal the song never caught on the Hot 100. ‘Get Back Up’, his collaboration with Chris Brown, as so far peaked at 70 on the Hot 100.

His last album ‘Paper Trail’ helmed 3 top 3 singles, 2 of which Continue reading

How Much?: Miguel

Miguel entered into the highest sales climate of the year after releasing his debut album, ‘All I Want Is You’ on Tuesday. Containing the R&B top 10 hit of the same name, the album is one of the only true representations of R&B released this year.

Miguel has the support of multiple artists, including Usher and Mary J Blige, the buzz surrounding the album has all been positive. Currently Miguel can be seen on the ‘OMG Tour’ with Usher and Trey Songz.

Th album was floating around the top 20 on itunes at the beginning of the week, but has since fallen to number 37 as Continue reading

Quick Sales Update

Shopping in Cincinnati, Ohio last night and I wanted to find out who was selling the most this week at that store. I was pretty lucky because the store attendants gave me the exact numbers of the top two albums and shed some light on an interesting aspect of the buisness.

If this store is any indication of the rest of the country than we can expect Kanye West to come in at number 1. Apparently Kanye has sold 71 copies of his album ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ since Monday. Right behind him is Nicki Minaj with 54 copies. The numbers don’t come as much of a surprise considering the star power of each artist, but Nicki was given the number 1 album slot in the store which threw me off.

How Much?: Justin Bieber

Today marks the release of Justin Bieber’s new album ‘My World Acoustic’. The album takes hits from his first two albums, and adds a new song to the mix. The album is only in stores, which is a nice challenge to the digital shift in music sales.

Whether you want to admit it or not, Justin Bieber is one of the biggest pop stars out right now. This can mainly be attributed to the massive following of pre-teens who follow him. After winning 4 AMA’s beating the likes of Lady Gaga, and having one of the biggest selling albums of the year, I hate to admit that Bieber is a force to be reckoned with.
