Album Cover: Tha Carter IV

Last week Lil Wayne released the cover to his hotly anticipated album Tha Carter IV.

The cover seems to follow the footsteps of Tha Carter III, which had a picture of Wayne as a tattooed baby in a tuxedo.

To be perfectly honest the cover is the only thing that I am liking about the album right now. I think that “6’7” was released too early, and I’m not feeling the current single “John.”

‘Look At Me Now’ – Chris Brown feat. Busta Rhymes & Lil Wayne

Rating: A

I’ve been meaning to post this song, but time has gotten the best of me. Even after the success of ‘Deuces’, Chris Brown is still left with the task of fixing her career. Thankfully he has decided to put all focus in the music, which is inevitably the only way for him to regain his popularity.

2011 New Years Eve Performances:

I still can’t believe that it’s 2011, but in the words of Jay-Z ‘on to the next one’. Before we do that I want to quickly post a few of the performances that occurred last night. I already did a post on Nicki, and here are a few more that I wanted to highlight.

I have to mention Lil Wayne on his own though because he is really winning me over with ‘6 foot 7 foot’. Anyone who knows me knows that I was real skeptical of ‘Tha Carter IV’ and Continue reading

Wayne and Eminem Rock SNL

Last night Eminem performed on SNL brining Lil Wayne along for the ride. The pair performed their hit single ‘No Love’ together, and then each performed their own songs during the second set.

Eminem performed the P!nk assisted ‘Won’t Back Down’, which made me wonder if the track will be released as the fourth single from ‘Recovery’. At this point Eminem could release anything from that album because it sold so much, but ‘Won’t Back Down’ might go over well being that it’s Continue reading

Thoughts….

After a few weeks of quiet time Lil Wayne crashes on the scene with his new single ‘6’7′‘, the first single from his highly anticipated album ‘Tha Carter IV’.

The single was produced by producer Banglasdesh, the same man who produced the mega-hit ‘A Milli’. When the single was first announced Lil Wayne’s associate Mack Maine made a big claim tweeting,

“Just Think A 2010 Version Of A Milli…But On [Steroids]”

referring to the song. Considering the weight that ‘A Milli’ holds, I would say that he was holding the song to very high Continue reading

Lil Wayne Gearing Up For Return

Reports are slowing coming in about the state of the ‘Carter IV’, the much anticipated album from Lil Wayne. According to Rap-Up, the rapper is looking to premiere his first single ‘6’7′ before the years end.

The rapper has been surprisingly quiet since his return from jail, something I think is a good thing. Wayne was everywhere before he left. You could not turn on the radio without hearing one of his songs, either as a lead or featured artist. I have said it before that there is importance in missing an artist. While he released an album while he was gone, ‘I Am Not A Human Being’, the album was nowhere near the magnitude of ‘Tha Carter III’, nor was it meant to.

Sugarland On Top

With 203,000 copies sold, Sugarland lands the number 1 spot with their album ‘The Incredible Machine’. This is the fourth time that the group has been in the top spot. Once again this proves that country acts consistently have strong opening weeks. A with Taylor Swift predicted to hit anywhere from 800,000 to 1,000,000 copies next week,  I think its safe to say that the country genre has owned this years album sales.

King Of Leon open at number 2 with 184,000 copies sold. ‘Come Around Sundown’ has the highest opening both in sales and position for the group. Their last album, ‘Only By The Night’ opened at 5 with 74,000. This is a significant step up, selling over 100,000 more. This doesn’t come as much of a surprise considering Continue reading

Quick BillBoard Recap

I will alway be man enough to admit when I’m wrong, so I have to admit that I was wrong concerning Lil Wayne’s new album. He has pulled out the impossible and has climbed to the number 1 spot on the Billboard 200 this week after the physical version of his album ‘I Am Not A Human Being’ hit stores this week. The album sold 125,000 copies this week, I applaud you Lil Wayne. You have pulled off the impossible proving that your fans will continue to buy your album weeks after its release. Even though I still don’t agree with the release schedule, I will humble eat my words.

Far East Movement has finally hit number 1 this week after moving up the charts each week. ‘Like A G6’ Continue reading

Chart Update: Chesney On Top While Wayne Succeeds

As expected Kenny Chesney topped the Billboard 200 this week with his album ‘Hemingway’s Whiskey’ selling 183,000 copies. This marks the sixth number 1 album for Chesney, who is consistently one of country musics top acts. These past two weeks have been kind to country music as his marks the second week in a row that a country act tops the list.

Lil Wayne manages to pull off 110,000 copies this week landing him at the number 2 spot. Considering that this was purely based off of digital sales, I would say that this is a pretty big feat. I still think that he could have easily taken the number 1 had it been released both physically and digitally, but I still commend him on his first week sales. Continue reading
