Nicki Does SNL

Nicki Minaj made her SNL debut last night, performing two songs, rapping in the digital short and showing off her acting chops along the way.

It was quite an impressive set for Nicki, but I was beyond disappointed to see that she was performing “Right Thru Me”. I was hoping for literally any other song, but she did redeem herself with “Moment 4 Life”, which only seems to get better and better.

I honestly Continue reading

Throwback: Rihanna Performs New Version of ‘Umbrella’ at 2008 BRIT Awards

After reading that Rihanna has been nominated for a BRIT Award, the UK’s equivalent to a Grammy, I found this video of her performance at the 2008 BRIT Awards.

I’d never seen it before tonight, and I had the feeling that a few of you haven’t as well so I decided to share it. The performance was at the peak of Rihanna’s career in 2008-although I think that  the LOUD-era is going to be much bigger for Rihanna.

Adele Performs ‘Someone Like You’

While Adele continues to make her rounds worldwide to promote her single ‘Rolling in the Deep’, her first offering from second album 21, she managed to give her fans a quick treat by performing the albums second single ‘Someone Like You’.

While the song has yet to receive a proper release date, Adele has mentioned that it’s on track for being released next. I won’t Continue reading

Nicki Minaj Visits Ellen

Nicki Minaj made her debut appearance yesterday on the Ellen Show. This is the one of many promotional stops that Nicki has made to promote her debut album, which will explain why the album is still in the top 10.

Even though Continue reading

Mike Posner Goes Acoustic

While Mike Posner was making his promotional rounds for his debut album ’31 Minutes to Takeout’ he did a beautiful acoustic version of his smash ‘Cooler Than Me’. While the video is a few month old, I still think it’s a great watch for all of you.

Overall Mike Posner has done pretty well this year with a top 10 album, a top 10 single, and a top 20 single. All from the guy who recorded in his dorm room at Duke University. Not too bad.

There is a lack of male pop artists right now with many of the acts on hiatus (Justin Timberlake), but Mike Posner is holding down on his end and could easily grow in popularity if he Continue reading

2011 New Years Eve Performances:

I still can’t believe that it’s 2011, but in the words of Jay-Z ‘on to the next one’. Before we do that I want to quickly post a few of the performances that occurred last night. I already did a post on Nicki, and here are a few more that I wanted to highlight.

I have to mention Lil Wayne on his own though because he is really winning me over with ‘6 foot 7 foot’. Anyone who knows me knows that I was real skeptical of ‘Tha Carter IV’ and Continue reading

Wayne and Eminem Rock SNL

Last night Eminem performed on SNL brining Lil Wayne along for the ride. The pair performed their hit single ‘No Love’ together, and then each performed their own songs during the second set.

Eminem performed the P!nk assisted ‘Won’t Back Down’, which made me wonder if the track will be released as the fourth single from ‘Recovery’. At this point Eminem could release anything from that album because it sold so much, but ‘Won’t Back Down’ might go over well being that it’s Continue reading

Ciara Proves Her Worth

With her second live performance of the week Ciara decided to remind everyone that she is one of the top performers out right now. I was not planning on posting this performance because I assumed that it would be identical to the Ellen performance, but Ciara outdid herself with this one.

Again there was another strong display of vocals, something that is not typically associated with Ciara. There are very few Continue reading

Performance Corner: Ciara

Better late than never- Ciara finally has began to promote her album ‘Basic Instinct’ this week with her first televised performance of her single ‘Gimmer Dat’.

Without a shadow of a doubt Ciara killed this performance. She was never one to have strong voice, but her vocals have improved greatly since her ‘Fantasy Ride’ era. Normally Ciara sing-talks her way through songs, not actually singing especially when it’s during an upbeat song.

Vocally she was one key the whole time, and she didn’t even have background singers, which is pretty risky, but she really held her own.

Performance Corner: Keri Hilson Nails It

Over the past few weeks Keri Hilson have been on promotion overdrive pushing her single ‘Pretty Girl Rock’. The single got off to a slow start, but has been dramatically rising on the radio and is currently number 40 on itunes.

All of the performances have been the same with Keri lacking some vocal strength. Her performance today was more simple than the others, but it showcased Keri’s vocal talent more than any other.

The best part of the performance though was when she mixed the Jame Blunt hit ‘Your Beautiful’ into the song before the last chorus. Considering the crowd that watches the Continue reading
