Willow Preps 2nd Single

Now that the hype and success of ‘Whip My Hair’ died down, it’s time for Willow to prove that she is not a one-hit wonder.

Willow filmed a video for her second single this weekend in California-see the picture to the left to get your first look.

The song is said to be in a more dance direction than her debut single, something that is not surprising considering the direction of pop music right now. Find out the name of the song with a snippet below: Continue reading

2011 New Years Eve Performances:

I still can’t believe that it’s 2011, but in the words of Jay-Z ‘on to the next one’. Before we do that I want to quickly post a few of the performances that occurred last night. I already did a post on Nicki, and here are a few more that I wanted to highlight.

I have to mention Lil Wayne on his own though because he is really winning me over with ‘6 foot 7 foot’. Anyone who knows me knows that I was real skeptical of ‘Tha Carter IV’ and Continue reading

Performance Corner: Willow Smith

Willow Smith made her television debut today performing on Ellen. ‘Whip My Hair’ was number 2 on itunes for most of last week, but has since fallen to number 5. With all of the hype surrounding the 10 year olds song, all eyes were on her to see if she could really sing.

I was impressed with the studio version of the song, but I had my doubts about her live vocals. With all of the auto-tune and vocal enhancements that artists use today, it seemed Continue reading

iTunes Madness

Today has been a pretty interesting day on itunes since I did my Release Me Tuesday article this morning, and I’m honestly shocked by the current standings on itunes right now.

First off, I said that I was surprised that Willow wasn’t in the top 10 this morning, and then said that I didn’t think she could pull it off due to the new Taylor Swift songs that were debuting. It looks like I’m going to have to eat my words because ‘Whip My Hair’ is currently number 10 on itunes. This should result in a lofty Billboard debut next week, especially if the track rises.

Chris Brown should also have a healthy debut, with ‘Yeah x3’ currently sitting at 17. I really am surprised at this, Continue reading

Release Me Tuesday

Another week full of new releases on itunes. Even though I literally can’t listen to her without cringing, its completely unavoidable to mention that Taylor Swift is releasing her third album ‘Speak Now’ this week. Its the follow up to 2008’s ‘Fearless’, which went on to win the Grammy for Album Of The Year. Regardless of my ill feeling towards her, this is expected to be one of the years biggest albums.

After the success Eminem saw with ‘Reecovery’, I doubt that Taylor could sell more this year. Then again, no one thought that Susan Boyle would end up on top last year, so anything can happen. Continue reading

Video: ‘Whip My Hair’- Willow Smith

I never post music videos because I like to focus on the music more (the VMA weekend was an exception), but this was too hard to pass up. Willow Smith has been a sensation ever since her first single hit the web. ‘Whip My Hair’ has been climbing up the R&B charts each week, while Willow prepares the release the single to itunes October 26th. The official music video has dropped today, and it honestly is pure fire.

At such a young age I could not imagine what Willow would do with the video. Continue reading

Nothing But A Number

With her current single ‘Whip My Hair’ climbing quickly up the charts, 9 year old Willow Smith is gearing up to release her debut album. With the sound of ‘Whip My Hair’ it is clear that Willow wants to reach the older audiences as well as young ones. This is smart considering that it is hard to break free from the Tween group once you are there. As I said in my review of the song, her age could distract older audiences from connecting to her music. With the song jumping from 60 to 38 this week on the R&B chart it looks like my fear may have been unfounded, but I want to see what everyone else thinks. Do you think Willow’s age will negatively affect her music, or do you think that it would add to her artistry? Personally, I think it adds to her because at first listen people are blown away that she is only 9. Being this good at 9 years old will bring her publicity for all the right reasons. I know that there have to be people on both side so I ask, what do you think? Vote below:
