Tarik Tuesdays- #1: ‘Can’t See Me’

Kicking off Tarik Tuesdays is the brash ‘Can’t See Me’. Building off of the momentum from his mixtape The Tryout, Tarik seems to have found new grounds for confidence, which he explicitly boast on ‘Can’t See Me’.

The song shows growth for the rapper, both in writing and style. The melody of the chorus is like that of ‘Hands to the Ceiling’; it’s very catchy and ready for the radio. It’s Tarik’s delivery though that makes the track even more addictive. Continue reading

‘We Can Do It Now’- Lupe Fiasco, Jennifer Hudson & Common

Rating: B

‘Empire State of Mind’ was such an epic collaboration because you had two of the biggest names from New York on a track together. ‘We Can Do It Now’ put Chicagoans Lupe Fiasco, Jennifer Hudson, and Common on an track dedicated to their hometown. To top it all off up-coming Chicago producer No I.D. produced the track, making it an official city affair. Created for the Gatorade documentary, the artists collaborated to create the musical backdrop for the film. The fact that I’m currently living in this great city left me no other choice than to cover the song.

The song is a testament to an inspirational Chicago mentality. The beat is perfect crafted to reflect the city. The blue inspired guitar in the beginning reminisces the blues legacy of the city, while Jennifer nails her vocal performance. Directly following the beat adds heart-thumping drums over the guitar. I wish No I.D. took out the Continue reading

‘The Time (The Dirty Bit)’- Black Eyed Peas

It’s difficult to explain my relationship with the Black Eyed Peas, because I really do love most of their music, but I get sick of their songs faster than any other act. After releasing ‘The E.N.D.’ in June 2009, the band has achieved world wide success, with millions of albums sold and 3 number 1 US hits. While the band was popular before, ‘The E.N.D.’ thrust them unto a whole new level creatively and publicly. Rather than take a break the band is about to release their new album ‘The Beginning’ later this year, which is set to have a more futuristic sound.

But Will It? Continue reading

Single Premiere: ‘Hands To The Ceiling’- Tarik

After the overwhelmingly positive response of his first single ‘Bad Timing’, Tarik is releasing his second single less than a week later. ‘Hand To The Ceiling’ is a certified smash in every sense. From the ridiculous beat to the lyrical performance, the song delivers strongly. This could easy be the song to thrust Tarik from a mixtape artist.

Out of the preview I hear, this was one of the strongest track on the tape, so I am more than pleased premiere the single here first! Fill out the poll below on the song and give your feed back below: Continue reading
