Random [Unnecessary] Performance(s) of the Week

Sometimes random artist hook up in concert and it blows your mind. And then there are those times that it doesn’t. It looks like Taylor Swift is trying to branch out by teaming up with Usher and T.I. in the ATL this past week. You know something is wrong when you read blogs to find that people think these two performances are worth while and cool.

How did ATL accept this? If you can stomach another read below: Continue reading

Performance Corner: Beyonce

Next week is going to be interesting to say the least with the release of Beyonces foruth album 4. In all honestly this is one of the worst handlings of an album in a long time, but this is not a post about that. This is about what Beyonce does best, performing.

This past week saw Beyonce promoting Continue reading

Miguel Covers Britney

In light of today being the release of Britney Spears seventh studio album Femme Fatale, it only feels right to do a post that is Britney related.

As part of Billboard’s Mash-Up Monday’s, singer Miguel stopped by the studio to give his rendition of the Britney Spears smash “Hold It Against Me.”

Miguel turned the pop song into a smooth soul jam lead by his powerful vocals and a blaring synth. While he did forget some of the lyrics overall he did a good job and I would argue that the song sounds better stripped down like this.

Nicki Does SNL

Nicki Minaj made her SNL debut last night, performing two songs, rapping in the digital short and showing off her acting chops along the way.

It was quite an impressive set for Nicki, but I was beyond disappointed to see that she was performing “Right Thru Me”. I was hoping for literally any other song, but she did redeem herself with “Moment 4 Life”, which only seems to get better and better.

I honestly Continue reading

Lauryn Hill Performs Live

Lauryn Hill is currently making her rounds by dusting off her mic and performing again. While many speculate that this could lead to another album, most joy in the fact that she’s out performing again.

While their have been many female rappers, there was always something different about Lauryn Hill. It might be the fact that her album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, received five Grammy awards including album of the year, or the fact that it holds the record for biggest debut for female rap. Whatever the reason is, Lauryn seems to be in a league of her own.

The video below was taken from her Continue reading

Throwback: Rihanna Performs New Version of ‘Umbrella’ at 2008 BRIT Awards

After reading that Rihanna has been nominated for a BRIT Award, the UK’s equivalent to a Grammy, I found this video of her performance at the 2008 BRIT Awards.

I’d never seen it before tonight, and I had the feeling that a few of you haven’t as well so I decided to share it. The performance was at the peak of Rihanna’s career in 2008-although I think that  the LOUD-era is going to be much bigger for Rihanna.
